Are Your Teeth Shifting After Braces? Here’s What to Do
Why teeth move after orthodontic treatment, how to stop it, and options like Invisalign and Vivera retainers to restore and protect your smile.
By Dr. Gabriela Aranda, orthodontist ·

Why teeth move
Teeth are held in place by ligaments and bone that remodel throughout life. After orthodontic treatment, those tissues have a memory and try to pull teeth back. Natural aging, grinding and changes in the jaw can also cause gradual crowding, especially in the lower front teeth.
Start wearing your retainer again
If your old retainer still fits, even snugly, wearing it nightly can stop further movement. If it doesn’t fit or is broken, don’t force it — call us for an evaluation.
Fixing relapse
Many patients with minor shifting finish a short course of Invisalign in just a few months. Because we’re a Diamond provider, we treat these cases often and efficiently.
Protect your results for life
Vivera retainers are made from the same digital scan as Invisalign and are stronger and more durable than standard clear retainers. Patients receive multiple sets, so a lost retainer isn’t a crisis.
