How to Choose an Orthodontist in the Portland–Vancouver Area
Seven questions to ask when choosing an orthodontist in Gresham, Camas, Sandy or Tualatin — from specialty training and Invisalign experience to payment options.
By Dr. Tod Hardin, orthodontist ·

1. Is the doctor a specialist?
Orthodontists complete two to three years of additional full-time training after dental school. Look for membership in the American Association of Orthodontists, which is limited to specialists.
2. How experienced are they with your treatment?
Ask how many Invisalign cases the office treats each year and whether they handle complex bites. Invisalign Diamond status indicates top-tier case volume.
3. Is the consultation free?
A good first visit should include a thorough exam, a clear explanation of options and a written cost estimate — without pressure. At Harmony, consultations are always free.
4. Are payment plans flexible?
Ask about down payments, monthly payment options and whether the office files insurance for you. Programs like our Parent Perk can make treatment more affordable for families.
5. Is the office convenient?
You’ll visit regularly, so location and hours matter. Harmony offers four offices — Gresham, Camas, Sandy and Tualatin — with early-morning appointments.
6. Do they communicate in your language?
Clear communication is essential for kids and parents alike. Our team includes Spanish-speaking staff, and Dr. Gaby is fluent in Spanish.
7. What do other families say?
Read reviews and watch patient stories. Most Harmony patients come to us through referrals from friends, family and local dentists.
